Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Saturday inaugurated the first phase of Noida International Airport in Jewar, marking a key milestone for the state-of-the-art project.

With the formal inauguration complete, commercial flight operations from the state Jewar airport are expected to begin soon.

According to reports, commercial flights are expected to start landing between mid-April and May as the process to secure final regulatory clearances is still underway.

The airport has already been granted an aerodrome licence by the Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGCA), a key requirements for starting commercial flight operations.

Coordination with airlines, ground handlers, and other stakeholders is also in progress. This process could take around another 30 to 45 days.

The airport, which has been developed to reduce congestion at Delhi’s Indira Gandhi International Airport, has been assigned the IATA code DXN.

Once fully operational, the airport is exlected to be the largest in Asia with a capacity to handle around 70 million passengers annually.

In the first phase, the airport will cater to around 12 million passengers per year.

Initially, only domestic flights during the daytime will be operational and full-scale domestic and international operations will be introduced in a phased manner later this year.
